An ocean of music can sink into one Lied.  Sabine Bergk

Hello and a warm welcome to my podcast for contemporary Lied, probably one of the first worldwide, but hopefully not the only one. I have been writing contemporary Lied for more than 15 years together with modern composers. Nearly 200 Lieder were realized and we had performances a.o. at the Deutsche Oper Berlin, in Cologne, Munich, Dresden, Weimar, Hagen, Ingolstadt and Austria. Lied fancying people build a wonderful audience and I cannot understand, why it is always so hard to realize a Lied Recital.

Theaters are not very interested, publishing houses do not care for contemporary Lied and many professional musicians just have a lack of time to study new compositions. It always needs a special motivation to realize a contemporary Lied Recital. Special singers, special pianists, special places - and a special audience.

This podcast is created to bring special people together. It is also created to show that classical songwriting exists. A contemporary Lied can open its wings around the world. It can be heard and loved and find an international audience.

I believe that Lied is important in a world of uncertainty. It can give us hope and be a ray of sunshine for everyday life.

In the beginning, Lied can fly will present some of my own Lied collaborations and later on we will discover contemporary Lied of other poets and composers. I do not follow any dogmatic new music school. Lied doesn’t need dictatorship. It speaks to your heart.

A Lied is small, but free.

I hope that you will enjoy my podcast. Let Lied fly around the world to find you.
